Your Favourite Moments (And Giveaway Winners!)
Thanks for all your entries in Angel Fever's Big US Birthday Giveaway! To enter your name in the drawing, I asked you to tell me your favourite moment from the series. I've loved reading all of these -- it's been such a great trip down memory lane. So many of your favourite moments are my favourites, too.
For instance, a lot of you especially love Alex and Willow's first kiss. Swoon! As I was writing Angel (Angel Burn for US readers), I felt the mounting tension between Willow and Alex just as much as all of you did, and was DYING to skip ahead and write the kiss scene sooner.
But I stoically held back. I thought the scene would have more power if the author herself had to build up to it gradually -- so that's what I did, even though, trust me, it was UTTER AGONY. When I finally wrote the scene, it was such a relief. It practically wrote itself. (What can I say? Those two were really ready to kiss!)
Hi! My favourite part in the Angel trilogy is in the very first book when we find out how Alex's brother died. It broke my heart and I felt so extremely bad for Alex. To watch what had happened and know there was nothing that he could do to stop it. It pulled at my heart strings and I had to put the book down so I could cry before I started it again.
Aw, @tezzerbear, sorry to have made you cry. (Well, part of me is. The author in me is secretly punching the air and high-fiving myself!) I really love this moment, too -- mainly because Alex finally manages to forgive himself, with Willow's help. It's a very old wound that is finally able to heal. It was such a relief to write that scene, and know that he was really going to be OK from then on.
My favorite passage is from Jonah's perspective. Willow and Alex just got out of the church and are escaping. Jonah sees Alex help Willow onto the motorcycle, asks her something, and kisses her abruptly. That passage was really sweet.
OK, I have to admit that I have a SERIOUS weakness for this scene. I loved writing from Jonah's point of view -- and it felt even more romantic, somehow, to see Alex and Willow from afar and imagine what they might be saying to each other, rather than actually hearing it. Glad you liked it too, Allie!
Just one? Hmm. I'm not sure this is my favorite exactly, but it certainly stuck with me to this day. When Seb and Willow overlook the ruins of DF (a city I know and love) and see all the devastation, that really got to me.
*excited squee* I love that moment, and was really pleased (and surprised) that someone mentioned it. What I especially love about it is the resolution of the Seb/Willow relationship. When Willow looks over and sees that Seb is crying, her anger at him just kind of crumples. They hug, and though it's left unsaid, they both know that they're there for each other no matter what. Yeah, I really loved that.
Speaking of which, I WAS SO SURPRISED THAT SO MANY OF YOU MENTIONED SEB! THAT IS SO COOL!
Ahem, sorry, I'll calm down now. When I'm doing signings, I often ask people if they're Team Alex or Team Seb, so I know, from on-the-ground empirical evidence, that Team Alex is overwhelmingly in the lead. But I have a real soft spot for Seb -- so I'm always more excited than I probably should be when other people appreciate my problem child!
Anyway, let's get down to the nitty gritty. Here's how I did the drawing: I numbered each of the entries, and then I put the numbers in my husband's cowboy hat and we drew 20 of them out. If you won something, send me a private message on my Facebook author page and include your name and address. I'll send the prizes out by the end of the week. And thank you to EVERYONE for entering. You are all awesome and I wish I could give something to each of you!

If you didn't win, keep an eye on my Twitter account: I'll be doing a quiz/giveaway around Christmas. The Jean Book Nerd blog tour for Angel Fever is still going on, too, and is awesome. Lots of interviews, excerpts and fun facts about the series.
Something else exciting! Next Sunday I'll be doing a cover reveal of my new Barrington Stoke story: Soul Mates, a short paranormal romance which is out in January. I'm in love with the characters and the cover is SO PRETTY -- I can hardly wait to share it!
And there's more: starting on December 15th, I'll be publishing extracts from an earlier version of Angel Fire, continuing for three or four weeks. This will include a character you've never met before (but who I really love), plus LOTS of previously unseen Willow and Alex material. If you're a fan of the series, you really don't want to miss it.
Whew! After all that excitement, I think I need to go lie down now...
